    Throughout June we will be airing weekly episodes covering the precision medicine work at The Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI). Kicking off is John Nardini with a two-part episode on machine learning and mathematical modeling of wound healing. John describes the nuances of tailoring mathematical models to the biological mechanisms and where machine learning can assist in the model discovery process.

     

    Why should data scientists and statisticians watch this episode?

    • John covers both the statistical/ML modelling issues (that are familiar to many of us) along with the less-familiar aspect of building a mathematical model to describe the underlying biological mechanisms.
    • He also covers the very important issue of identifying which biological mechanisms that are ripe for mathematical modelling. (This intuition is really important to ensure your time is well-spent!)
