The Oregon Health & Science University – Portland State University (OHSU-PSU) School of Public Health (OHSU-PSU SPH) seeks one or two full-time faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (12-month appointment). We seek candidates with strong training in statistics, biostatistics and/or statistical aspects of data science, experience developing data science curricula for population health, as well as excellent collaboration and teaching skills.

The successful candidate(s) will join a group of 16 faculty engaged in biostatistics education, and exciting health sciences research with collaborators throughout both institutions and the region.  They will be expected to develop a diverse research portfolio(s) with a mixture of collaborative and independent research. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have demonstrated record in one or both. Expertise in any area of biostatistics is of interest, but we are especially interested in candidates with experience with one or more of the following:  predictive modeling, data mining, machine learning, complex health interventions, precision medicine, population data linkage/informatics, clinical trials, large observational studies, and/or statistical computing.

Responsibilities for this position include: (1) collaborative research with biomedical and public health faculty including grant applications, and data analysis on funded grants; (2) independent health sciences and/or methodological research motivated by collaborations, (3) teaching 2 SPH graduate courses per year (on the quarter system); (4) participating in development/refinement of population data science curriculum; (5) mentoring graduate students; and (6) service activities such as involvement in SPH and OHSU committees.  Candidates may also opt to participate in activities of the Biostatistics & Design Program, OHSU’s core resource for biostatistics collaboration.

Minimum qualifications for the position are a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Dr.PH, D.Sc.) in Biostatistics, Statistics or highly related specialty. Primary criteria for appointment (at Assistant vs. Associate level) will be experience, research productivity, publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of effective teaching and/or curriculum development. The successful applicant will be appointed at OHSU and will work closely with faculty and staff in the OHSU-PSU SPH, researchers across OHSU and PSU, as well as partnering institutions/organizations.

Interested applicants should submit electronically: (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research statement (including interests, progress and goals), and (4) teaching statement (including teaching approach, philosophy and experience).
