    2017 Student Paper Award Competition -- Mental Health Statistics Section of the ASA

    Papers entered in this student paper competition should involve a methodological innovation or a novel application of statistical methods to a mental health issue. Current undergraduate or graduate students at any level, as well as those who graduated in 2016 and wish to submit research they conducted as students, are eligible to participate.  For this competition, there is no requirement for participants to be a member of ASA or MHS. Up to two cash prizes of $1000 each will be awarded to the highest rated paper(s) to cover JSM 2017 expenses.  The winner will then be required to be present at JSM 2017.  The winner must submit an abstract on the topic of their winning paper and register for JSM by February 1, 2017 through the official JSM abstract submission system.  The award will also be announced at the Mental Health Section Mixer at JSM 2017.

    Applications to the Mental Health Section should include:

    1.   A cover letter including name, current affiliation and status including actual or intended date of graduation, and contact information (address, telephone, e-mail) of the applicant;

    2.   The paper submitted for the competition, including an abstract of up to 1200 characters; and

    3.   A letter from the adviser certifying student status (or completion of degree within the past year).

    All materials must be received by the Section by 5 PM EST December 15, 2016.

    Winners will be notified by January 15, 2017.

    Applications must be submitted by email (text and PDF files preferred).  For further information or to apply, contact:  Douglas Gunzler, dgunzler@metrohealth.org.
