  • 1.  Statistics/Epidemiology content on USMLE Step 1 exams

    Posted 04-13-2016 09:22
I have been working as a part-time faculty in the Department of
Biomedical and Health Informatics in the School of Medicine at the
University of Missouri-Kansas City since 2008, and something just
plopped into my radar that I should have known about all along. The
medical students take a USMLE Step 1 exam, called "the boards" as I
understand it, and there is some content on these exams about statistics
    and epidemiology.

I'd like to prepare some web pages or other material that might help our
students with these concepts, even if they are a very small part of the
exam. I can make an educated guess as to what I should cover, but I know
that some of you have already done similar things at your institutions
and would know what is important. Any guidance and/or resources that you
could provide would be very helpful.

    Hi,

The National Board of Medical Examiners, which constructs, administers, and scores the USMLE (all three steps)

has available extensive prep materials, including old tests, at, I believe, no charge. Contact them on the web (NBME.ORG), or by phone (215-590-9500) or through the mail (3750 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104). And ask.

Sometimes the direct approach is the easiest and best.
