ASA Mentoring Award
About the Award
The ASA Mentoring Award is given each year to a member who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in developing the careers of statistics students, statisticians, or statistical researchers early in their careers. The award honors people recognized by their colleagues for their sustained career long support in developing the careers of statisticians and biostatisticians.
Selection Criteria
ASA members who have demonstrated career-long outstanding mentorship.
Nominations
Nominations are due by March 1.
Nominators should submit at a minimum a nomination letter, a CV, and up to two letters of support for their candidate. Nominators should identify at least four and up to 10 mentees representing the career span of the nominee. Each mentee will provide a letter (300-500 words) addressing their mentoring relationship with the nominee. Nominations will be evaluated using the following criteria:
- Demonstrated commitment to advising
- Demonstrated success in advising
- Demonstrated commitment to encouraging career and personal growth
- Demonstrated commitment to providing motivation
- Demonstrated service as a role model
The nomination letters should address the nominee's sustained commitment to mentoring. Strong nominations will provide examples of actions accomplished by the nominee in support of the work and career development of the statistical community.
