    Job Description

    Description of duties to be performed:

    The candidate will provide data management and statistical analysis support for research surveillance within the Office on Smoking and Health. Duties include various in-depth data analyses along with phone-based partner support to state-level survey administrators who are implementing and conducting surveys. Specifically:

    • The candidate will be responsible for survey development, methodological design, sample selection, data management, processing and analysis, and technical assistance of complex statistical surveys.

    • The candidate will utilize statistical analysis and data management software (e.g., SAS, SUDAAN, STATA, and R ) while working with other team members to clean data files, generate probability samples, construct sample weights, manage data processing, and conduct descriptive analyses.

    • Other responsibilities will include conducting epidemiologic analyses (e.g., categorical, linear regression, and logistic regression analyses) on survey data, and other secondary datasets.

    • The selected candidate will also provide training and assistance to public health professionals in states and territories. This includes answering technical questions about sampling, the survey process, and results of the data analyses.

    Special knowledge skills and abilities required:

    • Master’s degree required. Preferred majors include Public Health (MPH) or other science-related field relevant to analyzing prevalence and behavior data).

    • No less than 2 years, strong data management and analysis work experience using SAS, SUDAAN, and Microsoft Excel is a requirement. • No less than 2 years experience managing and analyzing large secondary datasets.

    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, especially written and verbal.

    • Demonstrated work experience of population-based surveys and statistics.

    • Demonstrated work experience of survey sampling and randomization.

    • Ability to update scientific staff on progress and problem resolution efforts.
