    Call for papers:

Special Issue on "Statistical Significance and the Logic of Hypothesis
    Testing" for Entropy.
    (ISSN 1099-4300; http://www.mdpi.com/journal/entropy).

A short prospectus is given at the volume website:
    http://www.mdpi.com/journal/entropy/special_issues/statistical_significance

This special issue will be fully Open Access. More information is
    available at http://www.mdpi.com/about/openaccess/.

Entropy is an open access journal which maintains a rigorous and fast
peer-review system and accepted papers are immediately published
online. Because it is an online and open access journal, papers
published in Entropy will receive high publicity. It is fully covered
by the leading indexing and abstracting services, including Google
Scholar, MathSciNet, Scopus and Science Citation Index Expanded (Web
of Science). The Impact Factor for Entropy is 1.502 (2014); 5-Year
    Impact Factor: 1.579 (2014).

The importance of using hypothesis testing in the development of
research is widely recognized by the general scientific community.
This Special Issue focuses on statistical significance and the logic
of hypothesis testing and their proper application in practical
    problems.

Specific areas of interest include (but are not limited to):

    * Formal applications of hypothesis testing to novel applied problems.
Philosophical accounts of hypothesis testing (including contributions
    arguing for or against those).
    * Methodological developments of hypothesis testing (taking in account
    the practical usability of them).
    * Logical accounts of hypothesis testing.
    * Logical (compositional) properties of truth values.
    * Statistical significance measures.
    * Epistemology of statistical significance.
    * Coherence properties of significance measures.
    * Surveys of the state of the art in one of the above areas.

The official deadline for submission is 30 May 2016. However, you may
send your manuscript at any time before the deadline. We can organize
a very fast peer-review, if accepted, the paper will be published
    immediately.

Might this special Issue be in response to banning on the use of p-values in some journals?  It is not clear to me what the editors are hoping to do with this special issue.

    Dear Susan,

p-values are just one option for hypothesis test. We are not against them, what we expect with the special issue is a place to discuss theoretical questions about the significance indices, but also practical questions. It could be from a Bayesian perspective or frequentist. We understand that in many fields of science, the hypothesis are tested every day, and it is important to discuss this. So the idea of the special issue is simple, it is a place to discuss. We are very open to any ideas and we are interested in listen anyone that would like to present a work in this theme.

    Best,

    Adriano.

Thank you for the clarification.  I would like to collaborate with someone on the topic of clarifying the difference between hypothesis testing, point estimations, and decision making.  If any of the readers of this forum are interested, please let me know.  My background is pharmaceutical statistics, predominately using frequentist methods.  My email is sspruill@appstatsconsulting.com
