    Student Paper Award Competition – Mental Health Statistics Section of the ASA

    Papers entered in this student paper competition should involve a methodological innovation or a novel application of statistical methods to a mental health issue. Current undergraduate or graduate students at any level, as well as those who graduated in 2015 and wish to submit research they conducted as students, are eligible to participate. Up to four awards will be presented, with a cash prize of $500 awarded to the highest rated paper and $100 for up to 3 honorable mentions. As the Section’s funding is limited at the present, winners are not required to be present at JSM 2016. However, the awards will be announced at the Mental Health Section Mixer at JSM 2016, and the winning entries can be displayed in poster format at the Mixer.

    Applications to the Mental Health Section should include:

    1. A cover letter including name, current affiliation and status including actual or intended date of graduation, and contact information (address, telephone, e-mail) of the applicant;
    2. The paper submitted for the competition, including an abstract of up to 1200 characters; and
    3. A letter from the adviser certifying student status (or completion of degree within the past year).

    All materials must be received by the Section by January 31, 2016.

    Winners will be notified by March 15, 2016.

    Applications must be submitted by email (text and PDF files preferred). For further information or to apply, contact: Douglas Gunzler, dgunzler@metrohealth.org.

    For section members who are teachers or mentors, please bring this to the attention of your students and encourage them to apply.

    Section members and friends are welcome to contribute funds towards the endowment for future student awards. Please contact Douglas Gunzler, dgunzler@metrohealth.org, for directions.
