Randy again illustrates the importance in data science, analytics, e-science and decision making. I have always thought of statistics as more of a philosophy, code of conduct and view on life rather than math. For example, the Law of Large Numbers to me is a philosophy that needs to be understood and believed beyond the numbers. It must also be understood that while No Two Anythings are Alike (Deming), there are likely fewer 'practical' impacts and effects than 'seen' in the data. The 'Best' solution is not the maximum, but the most robust over the sea of variability of special and common causes (in addition to being the best over many modeling scenarios).
