    Hello,

I have some mathematical and statistical material to type or get into printed form.  In previous efforts, I have done fairly well with "Word Equation" after you get the hang of it.  But project is a longer work and so I am looking for a simple perhaps downloadable add-in to MS Word. With, perhaps if lucky,  a tutorial on utube.  I

believe there is something called "Mathtrack" or something like that.  At any rate, I would like to do some writing involving integrals, summations, limits, histograms, plots.  And not be thinking about how to get it on paper rather than what is on the paper.  I know all about how "R" is used but would prefer to not have something so cryptic to me. I realize it is quite a tool these days but am hoping to find something simpler or more natural to me, an older guy.

I use Minitab, have taken a lot of SAS courses and used it some and of course know Excel but need something that handles mathematical symbols, etc. I realize you can do just about anything with SAS if you are willing to build it molecule by molecule but that is not what I want.  I want to maximize thinking about math and minimize computers yet be able to communicate clearly.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thank you very much.

Your reference to "Mathtrack" may actually be to "MathType," which is a more comprehensive version of Word's Equation Editor. More information is available at: http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/

You'll have noticed how useful PFLaTeX is in these forums? You can also get a plugin that lets you use it in Word ... never used it myself though. http://texpoint.necula.org/

You may also want to check out TexPoint, which can integrate with Word.  http://texpoint.necula.org/

I am not familiar with the add-ons for Word, though I have used the equation editor in a limited way.
Have you tried Latex, or AmsLatex or packages based on it?  Latex takes a little while to learn,
particularly what's called the preamble, though there are templates available for use, that help.
Another option is to use a program like Scientific Workplace (or Scientific Word) that is based
on Latex but that you can start using almost right away with minimal learning time.
It's a paid program and unfortunately I don't know how much it costs -- I get it through work.

If you really want to do something based on MS Word, I recently read about something called MathType
     ( http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/default.htm ).  I haven't tried it myself, but it intrigues me.
From what I understand, it's from the folks who designed the mathematical editor in Office, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, they claim it works with Office and many other applications, and the advertised price is
    $97 ($57 academic).

    Best wishes,

Math type lets you use latex language to develop equations in word.

I use Equation Editor both on the PC and Mac. It comes under"Object"

MathType functions as an enhanced version of the equation editor that is MS Words with point and click pull down menus. It provides for more capabilities and much finer controls. The program also has capabilitiles of various annotations such as automatic equation numbering. Their user support is pretty good. I use it in Word and Power Point documents. It can be used in a number of additonal packages as well. Check their website at http://www.mathtype.com

MathType works very well and makes the documents look very professional.  However, it does take time to use and get used to.  So, allow some extra time.

There is an option in MS Word (MathAutoCorrect) that allows a user to type an expression on a keyboard and the expression is automatically converted into mathematical symbols. Please see the link for more information:
