    Posted 01-23-2018 19:56
Data Expo 2018 is posted and there is still time to enter! This year's theme is weather forecasting. The main data set for the Expo challenge is the result of storing the forecasts for approximately 3 years in order to evaluate how forecasts change as the forecasted date gets closer and how they compare to actual results.

We are pleased to announce that there will be a category for Professionals this year, as we had in the 2016 and 2017 challenges. So, we hope many of you will take up the challenge!

Please see community.amstat.org/stat-computing/data-expo/... for more information on the challenge and the data as well as participation instructions. Make sure to take note of important dates and instructions at the bottom of the page (also listed below):

    • Submit a Speed Poster abstract to ww2.amstat.org/meetings/jsm/2018/submissions.cfm by Feb 1, 2018. (It doesn't need to be perfect or very specific. Abstracts can be modified up until May 2018.)
    • Send an email expressing interest/intention by Feb 2, 2018, to Radu Herbei (herbei@stat.osu.edu) and Leanna House (lhouse@vt.edu). This email should include your submitted abstract and the abstract number.
    • Bring your poster entry to JSM July 28 - August 2 in Vancouver, Canada.
    • There is an option to have an electronic poster, which could also consist of (or include) a video. Any video material should be at most 5 minutes in length, in order to be considered for the competition.

Thank you to Mine Cetinkaya-Rundel and Greg Snow for getting the data set ready and for organizing the challenge. We also acknowledge the support from the Statistical Graphics Section, the Statistical Computing Section, and the Government Statistics Section.
