SSPA Blog: A Blog for Statistical Programmers and Analysts

The ASA Section for Statistical Programmers and Analysts (SSPA) is starting a blog.

A group of SSPA members, with the approval of the executive committee, will blog about topics of interest to statistical programmers and data analysts. The SSPA membership has a wide range of interests, and this blog will cover a variety of relevant topics, with each blogger writing about issues that he or she knows best.

For example, one post might contain a short program (implemented in R, SAS, Perl, or another language) that demonstrates a useful task such as dealing with missing values. Another post might contain a review of a book that is helpful to statistical programmers. A third post might discuss good (and not so good) ways to graphically present data.

Here are the five W’s of this blog:

What: A blog for statistical programmers and analysts. Look for the tag “SSPA Blog” in the title of each post.

Where: Here, at the ASA Community! You can navigate to community.amstat.org and click “More” under the blogs section, or go directly to the blogs page at http://community.amstat.org/AMSTAT/AMSTAT/Blogs/ViewBlogs/Default.aspx.

When: Expect a post about once a week.

Who: Rick Wicklin (SAS) and Mike Carniello (Takeda) will serve as editors. Another two or three SSPA members will also post as their schedules allow.

Why: The SSPA executive committee wants to promote statistical programming and support its members 365 days a year, not just at the JSM. This blog is one way to connect with existing members and to recruit new members.

So, as we say in the South, y’all come on back now, ya’ hear?
