NC ASA Events and Initiatives

NC ASA has several exciting events coming up and initiatives being developed. These include a leadership development, mentoring opportunities, consulting connections, our Scholastic Council and Industry Interests Group, our newly launching Student Travel Award, Local Liaisons for NC ASA events across NC, and our new and improved communication platforms including Facebook (@NCAmStat and join the Facebook Group!) and Twitter (@NC_ASA)!  Look for NC ASA featured "In the News" in AmStat News and on ASA Twitter!

This past year, we have been excited to see the interest and engagement by the community.  Bringing professional development opportunities to the community, NC ASA ran it's first Mentoring and Early Career Development Workshop and hosted ASA's Statistical Leadership Course.  Over 90 statisticians attended NC ASA's Stories of Significance Fall Dinner featuring ASA President Lisa LaVange.  Our Social and Recycled Poster Session at Mystery Brewing had over 50 attendees, who were also treated to a free brewery tour!  NC ASA's first Speed Mentoring event was a big success, and NC ASA's Consulting Connections kicked off with its first lunches.  NC ASA also sponsored the annual High School Statistics Teacher TrainingNC ASA Awards honored several statisticians in 2018 - with NC ASA Award Winners recognized in AmStat News!

NC ASA host continues to hold monthly after-work socials, including checking out a new location at Raleigh Beer Garden!  NC ASA Socials are a fun chance to meet other statisticians over a casual beverage after work.  And be on the lookout for more socials engaging the community with prominent local leaders such as the NC ASA Social Meet and Greet with Past ASA President Marie Davidian and with Duke University's Cynthia Rudin.
