The Biocomplexity Institute's Social and Decision Analytics Division and the School of Data Science at University of Virginia are seeking applications for graduate fellows and undergraduate interns for its Data Science for the Public Good (DSPG) Young Scholars program. The program will run for 11 weeks (May 24 – August 6) for graduate fellows and 10 weeks (June 1 – August 6) for undergraduate interns. Fellows and interns will work in teams collaborating with postdoctoral associates and research faculty, and project stakeholders. The research teams will combine disciplines including statistics, data science, and the social and behavioral sciences to address complex problems proposed by local, state, and federal agencies.
Undergraduate students in any discipline are encouraged to apply. For graduate students (MS or PhD), preference will be given to applicants with quantitative, statistical, and programming skills. All students must be enrolled in a U.S. university at the time of application. These paid positions (10+ undergraduate interns and 5+ graduate fellows) will be located at the Biocomplexity Institute's location in Arlington, VA, and at the School of Data Science in Charlottesville, VA. Due to the current conditions as a result of COVID-19, the DPSG Young Scholars program has the potential to be run entirely remotely. The program will only be run in person if it has been deemed safe to do so.
