    The Library of Alexandria in Egypt requests your help to build research capacity in Arab and African countries. Only 8% of research publications come from developing countries. A primary reason for this is Stataphobia, the fear of statistics, and not having access to research methods books. We have joined together to empower research methods to the Middle East and Africa

    We would appreciate if you could donate/lend research methods books to the Library of Alexandria. Look at your book shelf, how many books have not been read in 5 years? During the next 5 years a book of yours could teach 300 students in developing countries. We are looking for research books from different disciplines and different times.

    If you contribute, we will give to you a nice little gift from Egypt.

    There are two ways to donate. The first is to bring several books to the Joint Statistical Meetings in Baltimore. The table for the book collection will be close to the registration area.

    The second is that you can send your books to:

    The cost to send 1 book to Pittsburgh, Media Rate is ~$1.00. The Library will pay to transport your books from Pittsburgh to Egypt

    This has been endorsed by the AAAS, American Statistical Association, the Statistical Society of Canada, the Society for Epidemiologic Research, the American College of Epidemiology, and the American College of Sports Medicine. Of course this is endorsed by the Library of Alexandria. The National Library of Medicine endorsement is pending.

    It is likely that your donation is tax deductible.

    It is time that your sleeping books get a new life to help young people in developing countries.

    Are they interested in journals? I would gladly donate my collection of:
     - JASA from 1950 to 1980
    - Journal of Business and Economic Statistics and Technometric from 1970 to 1980.

    This is a great cause - and thanks to Dr. LaPorte for helping spearhead the effort.  I had ~17 books that I hadn't used in years, but are still relevant to researchers and students, some are classics.  I enjoyed them, and now their duty is enlightenment elsewhere!
