Hello, all!
You may notice a few new features as you visit the ASA Community discussion groups today. They're all changes that we hope will make it easier for you to follow and participate in conversations. As you use them, let us know if you have questions, run into problems, or have changes you would suggest. You can submit feedback here.
Auto-Save
Drafts of your post will now be saved automatically every 20 seconds as you type them. If you accidentally close the window or something crashes, you can find your draft by navigating to your profile and then clicking on My Contributions > List of Contributions.
Participation Notifications
This is one I'm really excited about!
This update has three components:
- If you start a thread, you will immediately get an email when someone replies letting you know you got a reply.
- If you reply to a thread, you immediately get an email when anyone else replies to your reply.
- If you don't post anything, but are interested in the thread, there will be a large star icon next to the title of the thread. You can click this star to subscribe and get notifications any time someone posts to the thread.
If you're already subscribed to a discussion group in real time, you will *not* receive two copies of thread responses. (If you do receive any repeat emails, let me know.)
Of course, you can unsubscribe from these extra notifications if you don't want them by navigating to your profile and selecting My Account > Email Preferences and selecting "No" on Participation Emails.
In-Line Editing
When you reply to a discussion, you won't be taken to a new page to write your reply. Instead, a text editor will appear under the message you're replying to so that you can see every post on the thread while you write your response. Some of the functionalities are hidden, so if you'd like to do more (like insert a picture into your post), you'll need to select "Advanced Editor."
