ASA formed a new interest group, Text Analysis Interest Group, earlier this year. It had its first meeting at the JSM a couple of weeks ago, and presently has about 120 members on the ASA community (
https://community.amstat.org/taig-group; you can simply add yourself if you are interested in the topic). The group supports activities in any and all areas related to text as a data source: natural language processing, text mining, topic modeling, automatic translation, analysis of social media. We would like to promote a greater recognition of these areas within the big tent of the ASA.
Importantly, what establishment of the group means is that if you are planning a submission of an invited or a topic-contributed session for the next JSM, you will have an option to select TAIG as one of the sponsors. Please exercise this option if your work is in that area! (The process of proposing invited and TC sessions is different for the interest groups than it is for sections, but opportunities are available.)
You can contact me off the list with questions; I am the current Chair of the Group.
Thanks.
