    Call for Contributions:

Special Issue of Journal of Data Science on
    Data Science Meets Social Sciences
    Deadline: December 31, 2021

Journal of Data Science (http://jds-online.org) invites submissions
for a special issue on “Data Science Meets Social Sciences”. Data
science is playing an increasingly important role in the social
sciences through the use of a wide variety of data (e.g., structured
and unstructured, quantitative and qualitative) to facilitate our
understanding of human and society. The social sciences, historically
rich in theories and contextual knowledge, are well positioned to
transform data products into meaningful decisions and practices. This
special issue is dedicated to the conjunction of data science and the
social sciences. It aims to discuss topics including but not limited
to (1) methodological innovations in data science with applications to
a social science domain; (2) applications of the state-of-art data
science approaches that lead to new discoveries in the social
sciences; (3) the role of the social science in developing data
science tools; (4) unique challenges and opportunities that scientists
are facing in the intersection of data science and the social
    sciences.

The contributions can be from any branch of data science or related
fields (e.g., math- ematics, statistics, epidemiology, economics,
computer science, and engineering) and the social sciences (including
but not limited to anthropology, communication, economics, ed-
ucation, linguistics, political science, psychology, and sociology).
Cutting-edge works in big data, visualization, machine learning, and
artificial intelligence are welcome as well as classic methodological
and applied works. The contributions can target any of our newly
opened sections (Philosophies of Data Science; Statistical Data
Science; Computing in Data Science; Data Science in Action; Data
Science Review; Education in Data Science) or beyond, of
time-sensitivity or lasting impact. All manuscripts submitted must
contain original unpublished work that is not being submitted for
publication elsewhere. Submitted manuscripts will go through the
regular, fast (3-4 weeks) review process. Accepted manuscripts will be
published online immediately. To submit, please visit https:
    //jds-online.org/journal/JDS/information/instructions-for-authors and
mention the special issue in a cover note. A tentative deadline is
    December 31, 2021.

Started in 2003, Journal of Data Science publishes research works on a
wide range of topics that involve understanding and making effective
use of field data. The journal has been reformed since July 2020 to
better serve the data science community in the era of data science. We
are confident that the special issue will advance our understanding of
how to bridge data science and the social sciences. We look forward to
    receiving your submissions.
