ROLE of the POSITION
A postdoctoral position in bioinformatics is available in Dr. Qing Wu's lab in the Nevada Institute of Personalized Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The Nevada Institute of Personalized Medicine was just awarded an $11.4M, 5-year Center of Biomedical Research Excellence P20 Grant from NIH in personalized medicine research.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing research plans, execution, and analysis of projects involving "big data," including GWAS data, electronic medical records, and Federal-funded extensive cohort data. The successful candidate will assist the PI in researching GWAS data management, imputation and analysis, deep learning, and big-data analysis in a collaborative medical research setting. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be promoted to a research faculty.
The successful candidate will work in collaborative teams to address critical health and medical issues in the community. These issues include access and affordability of health care and the prevalence of diseases such as osteoporosis, cancer, and diabetes. There are opportunities to collaborate with partners with unique capabilities, such as the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, and the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of a Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D.) is required in bioinformatics, informatics, biostatistics, statistics, computer sciences, or a relevant discipline. Additional postdoctoral training in corresponding fields is preferred but not required. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
- Proven computational skills, programming skills (Python, C++, and R), and experience in performing data analyses of NGS data are required.
- Practical experience in bioinformatics, genomic data processing, high-dimension data analysis is required.
- Knowledge and experience in bioinformatics, data analysis, and statistical modeling are required.
The successful candidate will have good communication, leadership, writing, and organizational skills and a proven ability to work within a team environment. The candidate should have a strong publication record.
PREFERENCES:
Experience in machine learning and big data analysis is preferred.
A background in public health, medicine, biology, or a related area is preferred.
Research experience in osteoporosis, fracture, and bone density is preferred but not required.
SALARY RANGE
The salary is competitive and commensurate with the NIH Postdoctoral stipend level. The position is contingent upon funding.
