We implement several statistical procedures to estimate health care system (hospital, ward, ICU, etc.) load, and operating requirements (number of beds, of doctors, nurses, ventilators, etc.) to successfully cope with a possible health system overload, during the second Covid-19 wave. We use Poisson and Negative Binomial distributions. We then
validate the results
by simulating patient admissions with the Negative Binomial and the estimated parameters,
evaluating the results through a
survival analysis. We want to
encourage public health and medical professionals to use more statistical procedures, and o more joint work with statisticians (and vice-versa).
We want to encourage statisticians to provide assistance and tutorials to the medical community. We need to
provide illustrative examples to doctors, public health researchers, and to the general public, to help them better understand what the others do. You can find the paper in:
