    The Mathematics and Statistics Department in the College of Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2017. Join a growing and dynamic group of mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators actively engaged in education and research.

    The Position

    Your teaching assignment will consist of courses in statistics at the undergraduate and graduate level. It is also expected that you will engage in professional development, including scholarly research, and that you will serve on department, college, and university committees. It is anticipated that you will advise graduate students on theses, participate in curriculum development, and perform statistical consulting.

    Cal Poly Pomona has a student body with diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and learning styles, and is looking for faculty who can work successfully in this environment. In particular, applicants whose work incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our excellent benefits program includes start-up funds and a reduced teaching load during the first two years.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Completion of a Ph.D. in statistics or a related area by September 1, 2017

    Preferred/Desired Qualifications

    • Any area of statistics will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates having expertise in one or more of the following areas: nonparametrics, time series analysis, spatial statistics, high dimensional analysis, bioinformatics, and statistical consulting
    • Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching
    • Evidence of, or potential for, conducting scholarly research activities and directing Master’s thesis students
    • Demonstration of ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and/or service, and a commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

    To be considered for the position, email a single PDF file including: cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement, and teaching philosophy statement. The teaching philosophy statement must address how you would promote student success when working with a diverse student population. In addition, a minimum of three recent letters of reference should be sent separately by either mail, e-mail, or fax. Original graduate and undergraduate transcripts and an application form are required if selected as a finalist. Your application package or cover letter must address your background and interest with regard to each of the requirements listed above in the position description and qualifications. Your completed application packet will be available for examination by all tenured and tenure-track faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

    About the Department

    27 full-time faculty, including 7 in probability and statistics. Undergraduate programs in pure math/secondary teaching, applied math/statistics. Graduate emphases in pure mathematics, applied math, statistics, & mathematics education. More than 600 undergraduate majors and 65 graduate majors. Serving over 5,000 students each quarter.
