    Hi all,

I wanted to make everyone aware of the Ten Simple Rules for Effective Statistical Practice article that appeared in PLoS Computational Biology.

Ten Simple Rules for Effective Statistical Practice

It has some very practical advice on data analysis.

The article is very good but it is like preaching to the choir.  This is the type of article that needs to be available to every professional group.  However, I would suggest that the contents may need to be tailored to the profession.  Reading about microarrays might cause the eyes of economic researchers to glaze over or assume it didn't apply to them.  The concepts are the same, although some may be more pertinent than others, but using examples specific to a field might enable the article to be more widely distributed.

    Dear ASA Community,

The Ten Simple Rules (TSRs) article has nearly 44,000 views making it one of the 15 most viewed of the ~60 TSRs after only two weeks. While good news, the authors and the ASA would like to do our best to make have the broader scientific community see the piece. We're asking that you share the article with your non-statistician colleagues. Similarly, if you are a member of another scientific (non statistical) society, please consider asking that the piece being shared with that society's membership. Any other sharing (e.g., social media) would also be welcome.

As a reminder, the article is here: http://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1004961

My observation is "make it simple" by itself is dangerous.  I have observed the better rule is "make it as simple as possible given the complexity of the situation, but be able to give an explanation without notation'.  Stepping outside of statistical analysis, the lean folks in manufacturing ran into this situation – force simple scheduling solutions ignoring the inherent complexity of the manufacturing flow.
