4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge James Wynn) ruled that the voting districts in North Carolina had been gerrymandered. While I haven't (yet) been able to confirm that Moon Duchin (at Tufts) was a consultant - she organizes a workshop in metric geometry and gerrymandering), if you have the inclination, download the court ruling (~ 300 pages) and search for the "markov chain monte carlo" simulations used to demonstrate gerrymandering and the "classic S shape " of a gerrymander. The expert consultant to the court was Dr. Mattingly (at Duke). the link to the decision
