I am writing as the Statistical Consulting Section Representative to the ASA Council of Sections. The Council of Sections is seeking volunteers for JSM docents from each section. If you are a JSM veteran, then please consider volunteering to help first time attendees. It is a very small time commitment and great way to meet others and give back. Could you please distribute the message below from ASA to your section?
ASA is planning the First-Time attendee orientation. It will take place on Sunday, August 8 from 12:00 - 1:20 p.m. ET.
The plan is to have a whole group session with some general comments then we will go to breakout rooms. Each breakout room will have a facilitator (or two) to lead the discussion. We will provide talking points about how to have a successful JSM which the facilitator can use to guide the conversation. There is minimal preparation required, but it has a big impact. At this point we have no idea how many first-time attendees will participate. We would like to have enough facilitators so we can keep the breakout groups small.
