JASA Applications and Case Studies Calls for Editor Applications and Nominations The American Statistical Association invites nominations and applications for the position of editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Applications and Case Studies.
Established in 1888 and published quarterly in March, June, September, and December, the Journal of the American Statistical Association (JASA) has long been considered the premier journal of statistical science. Articles focus on statistical applications, theory, and methods development in any area of science. Submissions on new statistical education methods and their assessment are also welcome. All submissions are rigorously refereed using a double-blind peer review process.
The new editor will serve from 2016 through 2018, with the transition beginning in 2015.
Nominations
If you know someone who would be right for the editorship of JASA Applications and Case Studies, please nominate that person by sending his or her name, email address, and a brief description of his or her qualifications to journals@amstat.org. The search committee will consider your nomination along with others received.
The deadline for nominations is December 9, 2014.
Applications
Applications for the editorship should be sent electronically to journals@amstat.org, and should include a CV; the names of 3 references; and a letter of interest in the position including a brief statement of the candidate's vision for the publication, directions the candidate would pursue, and contributions she or he would make if selected as editor.
The deadline for applications is February 10, 2015.
JASA publishes issues in March, June, September, and December; a one-year volume is typically 1700 pages. The A&CS section typically receives about 200 manuscripts a year.
There are three sections of JASA---Applications and Case Studies, Theory and Methods, and Reviews. A typical A&CS section contains 10-14 papers.
The A&CS editor, working with the editorial coordinator, appoints Associate Editors, reviews new submissions, and selects papers for review by referees. The editor also consults with the production editor to create each issue and ensure timely production and publication.
The A&CS Editor also acts as Coordinating Editor, working with the Editor(s) of the Theory and Methods section and the Reviews section, to ensure a correct balance of papers in each issue and to prepare short articles describing each issue's highlights. The Coordinating Editor typically represents JASA on the ASA Committee on Publications.
The A&CS Editor receives significant assistance from the Editorial Coordinator, an independent contractor engaged by the ASA.
Editors are provided with an online manuscript submission and tracking system, and given training in the use of the system. The system allows the Editor to review papers and assign reviewers easily, as well as to generate reports. Editors also receive funds for office supplies used in the course of the editorship.
Please note: JASA editors must be active members of the ASA during their terms.
