TOPIC: What’s Your College Degree Worth?  A look at Earnings by Major
PRESENTER:
Deleep Nair
ABSTRACT:
Over the years, there has been a lot of economic evidence showing better financial outcomes for students who obtain their Bachelor’s degree. In New York State, individuals with a Bachelor’s degree have median weekly earnings 65 percent higher than those with only a high school degree. However, there are stark differences in earnings across college majors.  The federally administered American Community Survey (ACS) has been collecting information about respondents’ college majors since 2009. This presentation will explore differences in New York State workers earnings and employment outlook by field of study as derived from the 2011 ACS 1-Year Estimates.

Deleep Nair currently works in the Division of Research and Statistics at the NYS Department of Labor. He is also a Master’s student in Biostatistics at SUNY Albany’s School of Public Health.
