Director of Biostatistics, NYU-LI SoM

Mineola, Long Island, NY.  The new NYU Long Island School of Medicine (NYU-LI SoM) and its Research Institute
seeks an accomplished, tenure-track biostatistician to direct its Biostatistics program. The School of Medicine has as its primary mission: To train skilled primary care physicians who can also advance the health of populations as leaders in research and the translation of new knowledge into policy and practice. The role of Biostatistics is central to the overall mission of the new Medical School and especially critical for providing methodologic expertise for a wide range of clinical, basic and health services research.

The Director of Biostatistics will lead data science and biostatistics group, which serves the needs of the entire medical school and NYU Winthrop Hospital.  This involves providing methodologic consultation for new grants and manuscripts; design of projects; and informal and formal training for medical students, house officers and clinical and basic science faculty. Situated in Mineola, NYU-LI SoM is a partnership with NYU Langone Medical Center and Health System and will be the second medical school under the sponsorship of the New York University. This faculty member will be an integral member of the core, full time faculty of this innovative medical school with its primary mission on educating leaders and practitioners in the disciplines of primary care.

The NYU-LI SoM Research Institute has an especially strong program in basic, clinical and translational studies of diabetes, obesity and their complications; applicants aligned with these interests are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity.

Requirements for this position include an excellent record of quality scholarship and experience in collaborating with a wide range of investigators; a track record of strong leadership and mentoring skills; an established research success supporting appointment at the level of Associate Professor; a strong commitment to and interest in teaching; and a passion for improving healthcare.  Core qualifications include: PhD or equivalent doctorate degree. For physician candidates, board certification or eligibility and NY State licensure or eligibility is required.

 

Scholarship that bridges disciplines is encouraged across departments with NYU's many schools, centers and institutes. In particular, there is a strong and growing set of collaborations with NYU School of Medicine’s Department of Population Health and its Division of Biostatistics. There are other remarkable research opportunities in collaboration with NYU Langone Health, and with a broad range of NYC metro area government, community and academic partners.
