  • SIE Awards Ceremony and Reception

    Dear Section Member,

    You are invited to attend the open business meeting on Tuesday, August 1st 6:30 P.M.  at the Hilton Hotel in the Blake Meeting Room.  Following the meeting, the section will hold an awards ceremony and reception at 7:00 P.M. in the Poe Meeting Room (B).   Our members, along with all ASA members and their families are invited to attend the SIE Reception for the presentation of the Nathan Mantel Award for Lifetime Contributions to Statistics in Epidemiology and the 2017 Young Investigators Awards, including the Breslow Award for the top contribution of a young investigator.  

    The section is proud to present Professor Paul Rosenbaum (The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania) with the 2017 Nathan Mantel Lifetime Achievement Award for his valuable contributions at the intersection of statistical science and epidemiology. Prof Rosenbaum is a prominent statistician with expertise in the design and analysis of observational studies.  He has earned international recognition for his work on propensity scores, sensitivity analysis and other aspects of observational studies.  His work has influenced health outcomes research. 

    Prof Rosenbaum is a Fellow of the American American Statistical Association elected in 1992.  In 2003, he received the George W. Snedecor Award from Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies.  In addition to having authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, Prof Rosenbaum has also written three books: Observation and Experiment: An Introduction to Causal Inference (Harvard University Press, forthcoming 2017), Design of Observational Studies (2010, Springer Series in Statistics) and Observational Studies (1995, 2002, Springer Series in Statistics).  Prof Rosenbaum received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Harvard University in 1980 and is currently the Robert G. Putzel Professor in the Department of Statistics, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  He is also a Senior Fellow in the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.  

    The Young Investigator Awards are given annually to new researchers for the best papers in statistics in epidemiology presented at JSM. This year marks the inaugural year of the Breslow Award, which recognizes the top paper.   

    The section is proud to present the 2017 Young Investigator Awards to the following individuals;
