2015 Salary Survey of Business, Industry, and Government Statisticians

The ASA sent the survey to members in their database of business, industry, and government statisticians. Of the 5,296 with valid email addresses who were invited to participate, 1,157 responded to the survey. Based on the responses received, it was determined that 126 individuals were not eligible to be included in the final analysis. Those ineligible were either employed in academia, unemployed, not employed as a statistician, retired, or reported that they did not meet the definition of a statistician.

    The statistics community is concerned about Big Data, convinced it is not just a passing fad, but sees no cause to get head over heels excited either. The folks who offered comments were somewhat more diverse, with remarks ranging from “no threat to statistics” to “disciplines will move on without our help.” Some comments noted Big Data provides “more opportunities (for statisticians)” and suggested that proactively “we should jump on the bandwagon in collaborating with other disciplines.”
