Dr. Kelly Zou


Bio

Kelly H. Zou, PhD, PStat®, ASA Fellow, is Head of Global Medical Analytics, Real World Evidence, and Health Economics & Outcomes Research, Viatris Inc. (via a merger from Pfizer). Previously at Pfizer, she was Vice President, Head of Medical Analytics & Insights, Research, Development & Medical, Upjohn Division; Senior Director, Methods & Algorithms Group Lead, Global Real World Evidence Center of Excellence; Analytics Lead, Real World Data & Analytics Center; Statistics Lead, Statistical Center for Outcomes, Real-World & Aggregate Data. Earlier, she was an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, Director of Biostatistics at Harvard's teaching affiliates, and Associate Director of Rates at Barclays Capital. Dr. Zou is an Accredited Professional Statistician and an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA).

She received both an MA and a PhD degree in Statistics from the University of Rochester, following a BA in Mathematics (Summa Cum Laude) with a Minor in Physics. She completed joint Postdoctoral Fellowships in both Health Care Policy and Radiology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Zou has published 160 peer-reviewed articles listed via PubMed. Recently, she was featured as an Outstanding Woman in Data Analytics by Forbes, an Inspirational Women in Statistics & Data Science by Wiley and the Royal Statistical Society, and an Accomplished Woman in Statistics and Data Science by the ASA. Her health care policy research focuses on the design and analysis of multi-center health quality of care studies, as well as development of improved methods for accuracy and reliability measures. Her statistical methodological work has focused on outcomes research and evaluations of complex high-dimensional imaging and big observational data. She has expertise and experience in a wide variety of therapeutic areas and organ systems, including Oncology, Cardiovascular Diseases, Radiology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Musculoskeletal Medicine, Urology, Surgery, etc.

Her work on ROC analysis has led her to be the recipient of the Stauffer Award for the best article published in "Academic Radiology." She received multiple Prizes in the ASA Biopharmaceutical Section’s Poster Competitions and the Second Prize in the Statistical Significance Contests, and the Poster Finalist Award from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Conference. She received Editor’s Recognition Awards for Reviewing with Special Distinction for “Radiology” across several years, as well as for "Academic Radiology." In addition, she was twice the recipient of the Travel Stipend Award from the Society of Health Services Research in Radiology. CPhI Pharma Award Winner in Excellence in Pharma: Digital Innovation and Finalist in Excellence in Pharma: Regulatory Procedures and Compliance, STAR, OwnIt and W. E. Upjohn prizes.  

Dr. Zou has been an Associate Editor for "Statistics in Medicine" and "Radiology" (Radiological Society of North America), as well as an Editorial Board Member for "Significance" (the Royal Statistical Society and the ASA) and a Deputy Editor for "Academic Radiology" (Association of University Radiologists). She was one of the Mathematics and Statistics Theme Editors for "Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, Series A", which is the oldest scientific journal in the English-speaking counties. She has been a Referee for multiple peer-reviewed professional statistical and medical journals.

She has been the Principal Investigator of Grant R01-LM007861, entitled "Improved Tumor Resection in Image-Guided Neurosurgery," sponsored by the National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NLM); Grant R01-GM074068, entitled "Bioinformatics Tools for Multi-Center Diagnostic Trials," sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIH/NIGMS); Grant R03-HS13234, entitled "Bayesian Methods for Sample Size Calculation," sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Dr. Zou is an author on four books: "Statistical Evaluation of Diagnostic Performance: Topics in ROC Analysis," "Patient-Reported Outcomes: Measurement, Implementation and Interpretation," "Statistical Topics in Health Economics and Outcomes Research," and "Leadership and Women in Statistics," published by Chapman & Hall/CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group.
