Statistics without Borders; North Korea
Woody Carter
Lecturer in Public Policy
University of Chicago

Abstract:

Statistics Without Borders, an outreach group of ASA, runs a Michigan-Summer-Institute-style workshop at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, the only private university in North Korea. In 2012 a dozen statisticians from the U.S., Canada, and Europe went to Pyongyang to teach in the program. Woody will answer questions about the experience. He believes, counter-intuitively, that "we have a lot to learn from North Korea." He encourages all interested statisticians to learn more about Statistics Without Borders through their website and their LinkedIn group.
