Congratulations to ASA Members recently selected for federal boards or committees. Judith Singer of Harvard University will be nominated by President Obama to the Board of Directors of the National Board for Education Sciences, according to an October 4 White House press release. After nomination, Singer must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

In September, Census Director Bob Groves announced the names of new Census Scientific Advisory Committee (CSAC) members. According to the September 22 press release, the new members include three ASA members: Noel Cressie, a statistics professor at Ohio State University; Sharon Lohr, a statistics professor from Arizona State University; and Sally Morton, a professor of biostatistics at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health. ASA member Guillermina Jasso, a returning member to CSAC, was appointed chairwoman of CSAC.

In April, Katharine Abraham became a member of the President's Council of Economic Advisers.

Among other recent nominations, Linda J. Young was selected to the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics and Jim Berger was reappointed as chair of the NSF Mathematical and Physical Sciences Advisory Committee.
