Criteria and Guidelines

Created in 2001, the award recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of those who have successfully advocated appropriate and effective uses of statistics in business and the public sector. The award is named for the late Harry V. Roberts, the exemplar of statistical advocacy.

Award winners include Gerald Hahn (GE, retired), Fred Mosteller (Harvard), and Fritz Schueren (NORC).

When considering nominees, the following advice/guidelines may prove useful:
- A candidate’s advocacy efforts have
- inspired respect for data and the effective use of statistical reasoning in areas where such respect and use were lacking,
- had a significant impact on an organization(s) or sector(s), and
- typically been prominent throughout their career.
- Candidates can come from any sector, position, or country.
