Primary Function:

Effectively optimize Grainger.com website by translating data into actionable insights and conducting experiments to implement those insights to drive business results.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

* Use analytics (online and offline) to develop actionable insights

* Translate business questions into effectively designed tests and experiments (e.g. A/B, multivariate tests) for different campaigns and programs.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • SAS expertise or extensive ability to apply at least one other advanced data management and analysis software package such as SPSS, e-Views, S or R in addition to expertise in a programming language such as C++, .Net, SQL, or Java.
  • Two to three years experience in performing modeling and data analysis including processing and analyzing large data files. It is desirable for the candidate to have experience with large health insurance data files. Extensive experience with large data sets requiring multiple variable reduction techniques preferred.
  • Ability to complete risk studies on claims, lapse, and/or benefit reduction data through the application of statistical modeling or data mining techniques.
  • Ability to understand business problems and carry out project plans.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative ability to conduct required research and understand statistical models, optimization concepts, and hypothesis testing development. It is necessary to have specific abilities with respect to regression models, survival analysis, time series, statistical computation, or numerical analysis.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills to effectively communicate technical information to all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to collect, organize and process complex data and information from multiple sources, verify its accuracy, and effectively develop alternatives and logical relationships.
  • Thorough knowledge of quantitative methods, statistical models, and optimization concepts and the ability to apply them to business situations.
  • Knowledge of data base management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or Microsoft Access.

  • A strong preference will be given to candidates whom have attained a Masters or PhD in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.

Duties:
*1. Develop and maintain queries from complex databases to extract data tables and reports.
*2. Manipulate and transform data into useful information.
*3. Develop and maintain a reporting system of student characteristics, grades and facilities data.
*4. Responsible for preparing enrollment and grade reports each term including updating the institutional data tables in the COD Fact Book.
*5. Provide consultative services to other COD departments in the execution and modification of WEBI related reports and queries as well as related research projects.

*8. Draw stratified random samples of course sections and of students for survey research.
*9. Assist in the planning and development of database structures including data marts, universes and warehouses.
*10. Create, modify, and update web pages.
11. Participate and provide input on committees representing the Office of Research and Analytics.
12. Conduct research projects assigned by the Director. Analyze data using appropriate statistical methodologies. Write summaries of analyses.
13. Respond to governmental and other external agencies' information requests as assigned.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree, preferably in one or more of the following: social science, research methodology, statistics or data management, required. Master's degree with course emphasis in research design, statistics, data management and/or institutional planning preferred. Must possess three (3) years experience dealing with large-scale data reporting systems, preferably in a higher education setting. Knowledge of higher education data elements and their utilization in information management essential. Must be proficient in Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphic presentation packages, and statistical and data extraction software. Experience with the use of SQL databases required. Demonstrated ability to communicate (oral & written) effectively is a must. Four (4) years or more institutional research experience in a community college or other higher educational environment is preferred. Experience with Business Objects reporting software and web development software, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is also preferred.
