Using 123SignUp for Chapter Event Registration

123Signup is a vendor ASA chapters are using to provide persons interested in chapter events to go online and register for an event with a credit card.

Set-up
Set-up is free, simple and can be done in 15 minutes or less. The first step is to go to the 123Signup page and create an account.

The next page will ask for the name of the organization, address, and name and contact person of the primary administrator. Keep in mind the address that is entered here will be the mailing address for the checks of registration fees collected. You will also be asked to create a password.

The next page will ask for information about the event, including event title and location, and registration pricing. The service allows for different prices based on early/late registration dates and for different pricing for different registration types e.g. ASA member rate, student rate, nonmember rate, etc. One can also set a registration limit. Click "Finish" at the bottom of the page and set-up is complete. You will be provided with an URL where persons can go and register for the event.

Registration
Include the URL in your event promotional material. Persons wishing to register for your event online can click on the URL and immediately begin registering. They will need to provide an email address and a credit card for payment. At the end of the registration process people can print their own receipts and add the event to their Outlook calendar. When a registration is complete, an automated email will be sent to the primary administer designated during the event set-up process.

Administrator Controls
The primary administrator of the event can log in at any time and run a multitude of reports on the event. Mailing labels and name badges are just some of the reports that can be run. Administrators can make changes to the event, register persons themselves, and even create post event surveys.

How the Finances Work
Every time someone registers for an event 123Signup charges 3.5% of the registration fee with a minimum of $1 and a maximum of $6. Credit card fees are also applied. 3% for Visa, MasterCard, and Discover and 4.5% for American Express. There is also a $10 monthly processing fee. It is recommended to build these costs into the registration fees when planning your event. Each month that registration for your event is open 123Signup will send a check to the address given in the first step of the set-up process. The checks will continue until the event closes. If there is no registration activity during the month no check will be sent of course.

All in all 123Signup is an easy and effective way to manage your chapter's events. If you have any questions, contact Rick Peterson at the ASA office at rick@amstat.org.
